Had some really constructive dialogue with white folks down in Rittenhouse on Sat am. One of the more memorable conversations was with Mike and Linda of West Cape May.
They shared several experiences of growing up during segregation in the 60’s. At one point Linda became very visibly frustrated and stated:
“The federal government is destroying and dumbing down public education - closing schools on black kids..and white people just sit back and look at their iPhones and say, ‘Oh I have 20 new messages.’ No one cares.”
Saturday’s installation had a shell-life of two hours; cops didn’t start pulling down work until 11:30am. Not bad.
Huge thanks to collaborators: Adam, Allison, Andrew, Carla, Chloe, Dan, Derek, Diane, Dorian, Emma, Jake, Joe, Kenny, Kerri and Sam.
I look forward to Part 2 of this project and continuing the conversation.
